As expected, Apple has upgraded its base MacBook model today, adding a faster processor, better graphics, and a built-in, ten-hour battery, bringing the $999 system very close to the low-end MacBook Pro configurations, which start at $1,199.

Softpedia reported yesterday that Vietnam was again the source of an Apple leak, this time with Tinhte.com posting images and a video of a yet-unreleased MacBook computer. The system is now confirmed and available for immediate purchase.

Apple quietly updated the offerings on its web store without having to take the venue down for maintenance. Since it’s a rather minor update (although a valuable one for those planning to spend under $999 on a new Mac), Apple didn’t issue a report confirming the move. The “new” sign sitting at the top of the listing (pictured above) is announcement enough for the Mac maker.

As noted yesterday, the device retains the 2GB of standard memory, but gains a higher clocked CPU - 2.4GHz (Intel Core 2 Duo), and NVIDIA GeForce 320M with 256MB of memory (shared). Apple’s White MacBook also boasts an improved LED-backlit display, and ships with the newly introduced AC adapter, which features an anti-fray tip. A complete list of specs can be found below.

- 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor; 3MB shared level 2 cache; - 2GB of 1066 DDR3 SDRAM; - 250GB 5400-rpm hard drive; - 13.3 inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen display; 1280 by 800 pixels; - NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory; - Built-in iSight video camera; - 8x slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW); - Mini DisplayPort; - Two USB 2.0 ports; - Optical digital audio output/analog line out; build in stereo speakers; - Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet; - Build-in AirPort Extreme wireless networking (802.11n) and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR; - Preinstalled Mac OS X and iLife; - Size and weight: 13.00 by 9.12 by 1.08 inches (33.03 by 23.17 by 2.74 cm); 4.7 pounds (213 kg); - Meets ENERGY STAR requirements.
