Countless names have been attached to the much-coveted role of Lois Lane in the upcoming “Superman” reboot from director Zack Snyder, but only one lucky woman will be able to play it: Amy Adams.

Confirmation comes in a joint statement from Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Pictures and Snyder himself, cited by E! Online.

Negotiations are now over – and so must rumors be pretty soon – and the lead in the upcoming, highly anticipated flick will be played by Adams, who is now coming off a very strong awards season thanks to her part in “The Fighter.”

As Snyder sees it, Adams is just perfect for the part of Lois, the only woman who can get Superman / Clark Kent to fall in love with her.

“Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about,” the famed director says in the aforementioned statement.

“So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today,” he adds.

“Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful,” Snyder explains.

With Adams joining the cast, “Superman” is now ready to go into production, since it would seem that most major details have already been ironed out.

The male leading part goes to Henry Cavill, who’s already enjoying the support of a relatively large fanbase thanks to his role in the series “The Tudors,” and of whom Snyder said he knew he would be “it” the moment he first laid eyes on him.

“Adams will play opposite Henry Cavill, 27, who was cast as Clark Kent back in January. Kevin Costner and Diane Lane have been cast to play Mr. and Mrs. Kent, the adoptive parents of Superman,” E! says of the rest of the cast.

“Superman” is believed to go into production sometime in the following weeks, while a release date has been set for December 2012.
