For many days now, the blogosphere has been abuzz with speculation on who will be playing the female lead in the upcoming “Superman” reboot. Most assumed the part was that of Lois Lane but it turns out that’s not the case.

Even Kristen Stewart of “Twilight” has been attached to the reboot, with many saying she stood great odds at being cast as Superman’s love interest, Lois.

The only problem is that Lois won’t even be getting a lot of attention in director Zack Snyder’s upcoming film, MovieHole has learned – because villainess Ursa will be the lead.

Of course, that’s not to say that Lois won’t be in the film at all, since it would be nearly impossible to imagine Clark Kent / Superman without the woman of his dreams.

Just that she won’t be the lead, the e-zine has learned.

“Yesterday it was revealed that actresses Diane Kruger (‘Inglourious Basterds’), Alice Eve (‘She’s Out Of My League’) and Rosamund Pike (‘Doom’) were up for the female lead in Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman’,” MovieHole writes.

“One would naturally assume the character the trio are vying for is Lois Lane; funnily enough, that’s not the case. [It’s] URSA,” says the e-zine.

“Yep, the Kryptonian villainess who, with buddies Zod and Non, gave Superman a hard time in the previous film series (She appeared in ‘Superman’ and ‘Superman II’) has been promoted. For some reason, Ursa is going to be the film’s female lead and NOT Lois Lane,” the same publication reports.

Snyder has previously denied that Ursa will be in the film, presumably because he wanted it to be a surprise.

However, since she’s in it, it’s safe to assume that General Zod will also put in an appearance since it would make no sense to have Ursa without Zod, just like it would make no sense to have Superman without Lois.

Speaking of Lois, she is believed to make an appearance in the third act of the film but that, of course, has not been confirmed by anyone connected to the production.

“Superman” flies in US theaters in December 2012 – he will be played by “The Tudors” actor Henry Cavill.
