Dual-core smartphones running under Android are already available in a wide range of markets around the world, coming from various handset vendors, and it seems that more of them should soon be launched, from more phone makers, one of them coming from Sony Ericsson.

The Japanese-Swedish handset vendor already has a wide range of Android-based mobile phones available for purchase on the market, but more of them will arrive soon, including their first dual-core smartphones.

Allegedly dubbed Xperia Duo, the smartphone appears to have just emerged into the wild in its first photo, though nothing is officially confirmed on it for the time being.

The name was spotted last year, when Sony Ericsson filed a trademark for it, but nothing was known on its destination until now, when it appears that it was designated for the said dual-core behemoth.

Chinese blog IT168 (via) found a photo that supposedly shows the Sony Ericsson Xperia Duo handset, but no specific info on what it should sport in terms of hardware emerged.

However, some of the rumors on this device suggest that it should include a fairly large display, either a 4.3-inch or a 4.5-inch one.

Moreover, as the photo shows, the new mobile phone would sport similarities with the Xperia arc, including the Xperia branding and the Android buttons.

No other details on this devices are available at the moment, nor on its possible arrival on the market, or on the price tag it might feature at that time.

Even so, we might expect Sony Ericsson to pack it with all of the features that it usually includes with its Android phones, such as the Exmor-R backlit sensor camera, or the Bravia engine display.

Being powered by a dual-core will offer the device enough power to support various services and applications, and should make it a great companion for Google's latest Android platform, be that Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich, depending on when the device might be released.
