Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson announced a while ago that it would be offering an upgrade to Android 2.3 Gigerbread for the owners of a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 smartphone, and it seems that the company is getting closer to making the move.

Although it initially said that no other OS upgrade will arrive on X10 devices following the release of Android 2.1 for this handset, the company changed its mind, and went official in March with plans to make the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS available for the older handset as well.

Back then, the company announced that June or July could be the lucky months for the owners of an Xperia X10 smartphone, and we might be very close to verify that, it seems.

A video demonstration of Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has just made an appearance into the wild, as a proof of the upcoming software update.

Moreover, both the X10i and the X10a flavors of Sony Ericsson's handset are currently being displayed with the Android 2.3 OS on board on the company's website (via), which confirms that it should not be too long before the update is actually released.

The UAProf listings are the most solid evidence that Gingerbread is almost on Xperia X10 devices out there, though there was little doubt on this, that's for sure.

Soon after announcing the upcoming availability of this OS upgrade, Sony Ericsson gave us a taste of the update through a preview of the platform on its older device.

What remains to be seen now is whether Gingerbread will arrive on Xperia X10 with all of the goodies it was packed with when loaded on Sony Ericsson's latest Android devices.

Those phones came with upgraded hardware inside, being crafted right from the start for Gingerbread, while X10 was designed to accommodate only older flavors of the platform.

Hopefully, it won't be too long before Sony Ericsson starts releasing the update, and more info it should emerge at that time, so stay tuned to learn the news.
