Alanis Morissette on her first public appearance after confirming she’s pregnant

Only hours after confirming she’s pregnant with her first child, singer and actress Alanis Morissette put in an appearance on Chelsea Handler’s show in which she goes into the specifics of her pregnancy – including how she found out.

Morissette married her fiancé, rapper Souleye, a little over a month ago and, as we also noted earlier today, even back then speculation in the media had it that she was with child.

Doing the interview with the outspoken Chelsea to promote her upcoming role on the sixth season of “Weeds,” Alanis also had to answer some questions about her pregnancy, as E! Online can confirm.

Like, how she found out and whether she and her husband planned it.

It was nothing like that, the singer explains. She went to see her doctor for other health reasons and he told her that she looked like a pregnant woman, which is when he decided to run some tests on her.

Of course, that’s not to say that she and Souleye (real name Mario Treadway) are not happy about the news. Quite on the contrary actually: even if they didn’t plan this, they’re ecstatic to be expanding their family with a child.

“I went to the doctor and he said ‘well this looks like the scan of a pregnant lady’,” Alanis says. She insists she went to the doctor not knowing that she was with child.

“No actually I thought I wasn’t. But I mentioned in passing that I was a bit late, so he said ‘well let’s just take a quick look.’ I said ‘But there’s still a chance I’m not though, yes?’ and he said, ‘about as much chance as me getting a [gender] change’,” the singer further explains.

Clearly very happy about the situation, Alanis even interrupts Chelsea at one point to tell her “I’m glowing!” and then proceeds to explain how she knew from the first second she saw Mario, her husband, that he’d play an important part in her life.

As we also reported on several previous occasions, Alanis will reprise her role on “Weeds,” whose sixth season premieres on August 16. Linda Hamilton and Mark-Paul Gosselaar will also be joining the cast for new episodes.
