14 DAY TRIAL // As the premiere date for the sixth season of Showtime’s “Weeds” is drawing near, more details about the cast are beginning to emerge. Not only will Linda Hamilton be taking on a part on the series, but last season’s new arrivals Jennifer Jason Leigh and Alanis Morissette will also reprise their roles for the latest season, Michael Ausiello of EW’s The Ausiello Files reports.
The series, focusing on a widow and mother of two who suddenly finds herself in a situation in which she has to be “creative” about making a buck in order to afford to maintain the same lifestyle as before, debuts on August 16 after a long hiatus. Some of the characters from the previous seasons will not return for the sixth, but two of them will, after audiences too expressed their desire to see them back on the small screen.
“Two familiar faces will sprout up on the new season of Weeds. Jennifer Jason Leigh is set to reprise her role as Nancy’s older sister, Jill, in one episode, while Alanis Morissette is returning for two episodes as Nancy’s baby doc (and girlfriend to Andy),” Ausiello informs. Both characters were received very well by fans who saw them as essential additions to the cast without making the plot seem like overkill. Not the same was said about Elizabeth Perkins as Celia though, as her character seems to have lost almost all relevance to the story in the final episodes of season 5.
“Weeds’ sixth season, which premieres Aug. 16, finds Nancy & Co. on the run after Shane whacked Pilar with a croquet mallet. Other upcoming guest stars include Linda Hamilton as a Seattle-based pot grower and, as my frenemy recently scooped, Mark-Paul Gosselaar as a love interest for Nancy,” Ausiello further says. As we also reported a while ago, Hamilton has been approached for a part in the aftermath of Perkins’ departure. As for Gosselaar, fans may remember him from “Saved by the Bell,” where he played heartthrob Zack Morris.
As is usually the case, details on the plot are being kept closely under wraps. So far, the only detail that’s been revealed to the media is that the story will pick up immediately after the season 5 finale – but that’s about all. Should more be revealed, rest assured you’ll find out about it here.
