This August will see the premiere of a brand new season of yet another one of Showtime’s most popular series, the light-hearted “Weeds,” telling the story of a single mother of two who takes up marijuana trafficking to put food on the table. With the first episodes of season 6, a new character will be introduced, played by none other than “Terminator” star Linda Hamilton, Michael Ausiello of The Ausiello Files has learned.

Earlier this month, word got out online that one of the fixtures since episode 1, Celia (Elizabeth Perkins) would no longer appear in the next season, save for a few moments to have her departure explained. As such, a replacement was needed and it would seem that producers eventually settled on Hamilton to fill the gap, Ausiello says. Linda’s character will be in the same branch of business as the adorable yet tough to crack Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker).

“This should go a long way in terminating the negative buzz surrounding Elizabeth Perkins’ Weeds exit: Linda Hamilton is joining the Showtime comedy for a multi-episode arc in season 6, sources confirm to me exclusively. The original Sarah Connor will play Linda, an eco-conscious marijuana grower who, along with her life partner Fiona, helps Nancy’s endeavors in Seattle take bloom,” Ausiello writes after confirming the news with various inside sources who have, of course, chosen to remain anonymous.

“Weeds’ sixth season, which premieres August 16, finds Nancy and Co. on the run after Shane whacked Pilar with a croquet mallet. Also joining the cast for several episodes is Prison Break alum Peter Stormare. His character is described as a hot-tempered German chef who is anything but charmed by his new ambitious dishwasher, Andy (Justin Kirk),” Ausiello also says of new additions to the cast in the next season.

“Weeds” first premiered on Showtime in 2005 and, though not rising to the ratings registered by other series, it was the network’s biggest show. “Weeds” was also nominated for no less than 19 Emmys and 10 Golden Globes. Still, season 5 left some fans somewhat disappointed because of certain twists in the plot – hopefully, this new season will right all wrongs.
