Motorola, Inc. announced on Wednesday that Airtel Wireless Ltd. had launched a “Push-to-Connect” service in Canada, in the province of Alberta, and that the carrier had used Motorola’s iDEN handsets along with an iDEN Harmony wireless communication system for its new deployment. According to the company, its iDEN cellular technology offers users the possibility to make usual voice calls and share data, while also enabling them to enjoy immediate two-way conversations via the simple push of a button.

“This new Push-to-Connect service provides a great boost to productivity and efficiency in the workplace, especially for companies that need to stay in touch with their employees out in the field or on the go,” said Merle Isaacson, president, Airtel Wireless. Caesar Silva, Motorola vice president, sales and service, Global iDEN, commented: “The iDEN network is ideal for mobile operators considering deployment of a small- to large-scale mobile voice and data network with optimized dispatch capability. Motorola’s ecosystem of network infrastructure, devices, applications and services enable mobile operators to deploy iDEN with confidence while managing cost and mitigating risk.

According to Merle Isaacson, the new network based on Motorola's technology offers Airtel the possibility to provide a new service to its customers, while also offering them text messaging, voice mail and unlimited group calling, all available at a low monthly price. At the same time, Isaacson also added that the new Motorola network came along with specific devices and applications, including NetDispatch Messenger, a solution that can turn any computer into a two-way radio as long as it has an Internet connection.

The iDEN Harmony Wireless Communication System has been developed so as to provide not only two-way radio features, but also cellular telephone, packet data and paging into the same system. The system has been designed mainly for small- to medium- scale deployments, and can prove a great option for businesses that need to communicate with mobile crews. It also comes with a scalable architecture, offering medium-sized mobile operators the possibility to increase network investment to meet demand.

While having iDEN networks working with 31 operators in 23 countries all around the world, Motorola also offers a wide range of iDEN devices, including the Motorola Stature i9, i335, i365, i365IS, Motorola Clutch i465, i605 and i850, which can prove great options both for enterprise users and consumers.
