Computer maker Acer has already brought to the market a nice range of mobile phones running under Google's Android operating system, and has also unveiled a series of tablet PCs powered by the platform, one of which includes both tablet and smartphone capabilities, a 4.8-inch device unveiled several weeks ago.

This handset, which hasn't got a name as of yet, is expected to land in the United States in the coming months, and should become available for purchase via wireless carriers in the country, it seems.

Acer confirmed at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week that the new device should be released on shelves in the country sometime in April, a recent article on Engadget reads.

The company claims that this handset would be “100 percent phone, 100 percent tablet,” and that it would be launched running under either Froyo or Honeycomb.

Acer's 4.8-inch device offers support for WCDMA, and should prove great for the networks operated by AT&T or T-Mobile in the country, though a CDMA flavor of the handset is not excluded either.

According to Engadget, the device might be launched at Verizon too, though exact details on the matter are not available at the moment.

In the meantime, we should note that this device would in pack the largest touchscreen display any Android smartphone would have, and that it would also sport a resolution of 1024 x 480-pixel along with a 21:9 aspect ratio.

The device was built with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor inside, with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back (with LED flash and HD 720p video recording capabilities) and with a 1.3MP camera on the front for video calling.

Undoubtedly, the new Android tablet / smartphone would easily prove a highly-appealing device, the same as other mobile phones Acer brought to shelves with Android on board did. More info on it should emerge as the release date nears, so keep an eye on this space for more.
