Computer maker Acer seems set to impress the world with its plans for the Android operating system, and the release of two tablet PCs based on the platform, complemented by the upcoming availability of a new smartphone to be powered by the platform are just the thing.

During a press event held today in New York City, the company has announced the release of three new devices based on Google's mobile operating system, including a 7-inch tablet PC, along with a 10.1-inch such device.

But this is not all, it seems, as the company also came up with a new Android-based smartphone to add to its existing offering, a handset that reportedly boasts a 4.8-inch touchscreen display.

We already reported on the possible release of the 7-inch Android-based tablet PC from Acer, but it seems that the company decided it would be a great thing to offer even more devices of this type to users.

The 7-inch slate does not have a name for the time being, it seems, but some info on it was already unveiled, including the fact that it would deliver a 1280 x 800 pixels resolution.

Powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm dual core application processor, the Android-based tablet PC was touted during the press event as coming to the market with support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1.

Next on the line is a 10.1-inch device, which packs a 1GHz processor with support for Flash 10.1, as well as the “Google Android Tablet OS”, and Acer UI 4.5.

Other specs of this device include a 4-megapixel rear-facing camera, complemented by a 10.1'' touchscreen display that boasts a 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, as well as HDMI output (720p).

The slate reportedly packs a Tegra 2 chip inside, and should offer support for enhanced multimedia capabilities, including full 1080p video playback.

And there is also the aforementioned Android-based smartphone, which packs a 4.8-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 1024 x 480 pixels resolution.

According to Acer, the new device comes with both smartphone and tablet PC capabilities. Its specs include an 8MP camera on the back with LED flash, HD 720p video recording, complemented by a 1.3MP front camera for video calling.

All three devices are expected to become available for purchase in April next year. Additional images with these devices can be found over at Engadget.
