Amazon is already listing it as up for order, so people can go ahead and get it

Acer may not be going through its best year right now, but that doesn't mean it is going to lay off on launching new things any time soon, even displays that play things more conservatively and don't jump at LED backlights.

The new AT3218MF from Acer is one of the lessening number of panels that don't utilize LED backlighting nowadays.

With a size of 32 inches, it showed up not long ago on Amazon, with a price of 299.97 Euro, more or less the same as $415.60.

It may or may not have an IPS panel, but the viewing angles of 178 degrees, both horizontally and vertically, strongly suggest this.

Either way, even in absence of the power efficiency brought by LEDs, the HDTV has all the other assets that consumers would expect.

The native resolution is, predictably, 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, Full HD as it were, basically mainstream at this point. Meanwhile, the response time is 6.5ms.

Additionally, Acer was able to implement a dynamic contrast ratio of 20,000:1 and a brightness of 400 cd/m2, which is nothing to scoff at.

Furthermore, buyers will get a DVB-C/DVB-T TV tuner, in addition to USB, a pair of HDMI ports and two 3W speakers.

All in all, this piece of equipment has mostly everything the casual user could want from a HDTV.

Using CCFL instead of LED is one way to make a display cheaper, and Acer may be trying to boost its sales through price accessibility after going through such tough times this year (even if it was mostly on the PC market) unlike, for example, Lenovo, who has only reasons to rejoice, for the most part.

For those more interested in monitors that a new TV set, this series of S0 Slim LED monitors may strike their fancy.

As for enthusiasts looking for big screens, Sharp can probably cater to their needs a bit better.
