Yesterday, AT&T announced the addition of five new high-definition channels to its U-verse TV channel lineup, including two international ones for Cantonese and Filipino subscribers.

With the addition of these five new channels, AT&T U-verse comes to a total of over 60 launched this year, half of them in high definition. U-verse TV now provides more than 115 HD channels, surpassing packages offered by the main cable providers present in U-verse markets across the United States.

“Customers don’t think of HD as bonus content anymore. HD is now the norm,” Dan York, executive vice president of content and programming, AT&T Converged Services, said. “Our customers expect the best when it comes to HD, and that’s why we continue to add more and more HD to our lineup. These new channels help us with important strategic content initiatives and give our U-verse TV customers access to more HD channels than their cable peers.”

The new HD additions available for U-verse TV HD subscribers are: Cartoon Network HD, Trinity Broadcasting Network HD, MSNBC HD, and TV One HD. WFN: World Fishing Network HD will be available for the HD Premium Tier, which will cost an extra $5 per month. These new channels will be added to the existing lineup depending on the type of the program package.

Hong Kong's TVBe will also be available for Cantonese viewers located in the United States, for just $17 per month. The program will include up-to-date news from Hong Kong, entertainment, drama programs and lots of magazine shows. VivaTV Plus, the other addition to the U-verse lineup, is aimed at the Filipino viewers, offering 24- hour Filipino-language programming, news, movies and TV series from the Philippines.

The wide array of in-language programming packages that AT&T U-verse TV provides allows the customers to choose from Japanese, French, Russian, Korean, Spanish, Polish, Filipino and Vietnamese.
