It appears that SanDisk's recently released set of solid state drives, or at least some of them, have already found a home in the new series of ASUS ultraportable laptops known as the UX line.

Since Computex 2011 turned out to be the same visitor magnet as every other year, ASUS delivered quite a few different products.

One of them is the UX series of ultraportable notebooks, which we covered in detail here.

Apparently, they ended up being the first home of the U100 series of SanDisk solid state drives which, along with the iSSD units, were released just a short time ago.

“The ASUS UX Series notebook combines advanced features with the portability that consumers demand from a mobile computing platform,” said Kevin Conley, senior vice president, solid state drives, SanDisk.

“Our form factor miniaturization leadership enabled us to customize the U100 drive according to ASUS’ needs while providing high performance and low power consumption.”

Being available in so many form factors (Half-Slim SATA SSD, mSATA, mSATA mini and 2.5-inch cased), they were able to allow the newcomers to measure 3 to 17 mm and to weigh 1.1 kilograms.

Of course, their speeds of 340 MB/s when writing and 450 MB/s when reading, as well as the capacity of 8 to 256 GB, is also what makes them so suited for this sort of project.

“SanDisk tailored their SSD to meet our specific needs and then helped us optimize the drive in our new UX Series notebook,” said S. Y. Shian, corporate vice president and general manager, notebook business unit, ASUS.

“SanDisk’s U100 drive allows our notebook to achieve the thin size, fast performance and long battery life needed to produce an enjoyable user experience.”

All in all, the members of the UX line should succeed in filling their role as powerful and long lived (up to 14 hours of battery life) ultrathin notebooks.
