It appears that SanDisk, like so many other companies, decided to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the Computex 2011 trade show to come forth and deliver some new solid state drives.

Since the 2011 Computex trade show is underway, many IT players have or will soon grab attention thanks to their newest products.

Some of the things on show are already available, while others will take months to complete, but the event is, overall, packed.

SanDisk managed to gain some attention of its own, even with all the CPUs and tablet products, by delivering not one but two series of solid state drives.

The newcomers make the best of what their kind is known for, namely speed and compactness, in order to act as viable resources for ultrathin notebooks and tablets, respectively.

To be more specific, the U100 drive, a modular SSD with many form factors (2.5-inch, half-slim SATA, msATA and mSATA mini), as well as the iSSD line, have been unleashed.

The former is the one intended for thin and light laptops and has 8 to 256 GB of storage, plus speeds of up to 340 MB/s when writing and 450 MB/s when reading (via SATA 6.0 Gbps).

Meanwhile, the iSSD is of 8 to 128 GB and transfers data at a maximum of 160 MB/s when writing and 450 MB/s when reading.

“Our deep involvement with key ecosystem stakeholders allows us to align our products with fast-moving market requirements,” said Rizwan Ahmed, director, SSD product marketing, SanDisk.

“We develop low-power, high-performance SATA SSDs that optimally fit into a growing number of thin client devices.”

All newcomers are based on a JEDEC-standard package, support Power Classes (flexible performance) and feature the nCache Acceleration Technology (boosts multitasking and responsiveness by providing fast burst write performance).

Volume production will only commence during the third quarter, but samples should already be shipping.
