Hours ago, at the 2010 American Music Awards, held at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater, the industry took a bow before the biggest artists and music acts of the day. Justin Bieber was definitely the king, scooping no less than 4 awards in a single night.
Competition was tight, as the biggest contenders this year were Eminem, officially the artist to boast the biggest comeback of all times, Lady Antebellum and Justin Bieber.
The Biebs came out as the strongest of the three, but that’s not to say the other two didn’t get to take home awards as well, as People magazine can confirm.
“The teen idol dominated the American Music Awards on Sunday, winning four trophies to go with ear-piercing squeals from the girls at LA’s Nokia Theatre,” People reports.
“‘I can’t stop smiling,’ says Bieber, who won for pop / rock male, breakthrough artist, album of the year for My World 2.0 and artist of the year,” the same magazine writes.
Not only did Bieber see the past year crowned with 4 awards, but he also set a new record while doing so, by becoming the youngest artist to win the top distinction, Artist of the Year, in the history of the awards.
To mark the special moment, in his acceptance speech, he called Usher on stage, saying he deserved to be there just as much as he did because he was “not only my mentor but my best friend and my big brother.”
Usher too had reason to rejoice and not only because his protégé was the big winner of the night.
“Usher picked up two awards – for male soul / R&B artist and for his album, Raymond v. Raymond. Eminem also was a double winner for male rap / hip-hop artist and for his album, Recovery,” People notes.
