Before making its Comic Con debut, the official trailer for the “Spider-Man” reboot, “The Amazing Spider-Man” has leaked online. The bootleg video is also available (for now) below, embedded at the end of the article.

The new film stars British actor Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker / Spider-Man and Emma Stone as his love interest. Judging by the trailer, it will be a much darker, grittier film than the previous releases.

Directed by Marc Webb, “The Amazing Spider-Man” also stars Rhys Ifans as the villain The Lizzard, Sally Field and Martin Sheen, and will only arrive in theaters in the summer of 2012.

The first trailer, as the video below will show, opens with the image of Peter’s father leaving him. Next up, we see a teen Peter, played by Garfield, as he goes about his daily life as a high school student.

Fans will also see glimpses of Emma in character, and of Peter’s aunt and uncle who raise him after his father abandons him.

The latter part of the video focuses on what Peter does when he discovers his super-powers, after he’s bitten by the spider: he’s seen jumping up on buildings and leaping from one high tower to another.

What the trailer does not show is the villain, but the studio is probably saving that for a later trailer, to come out sometime towards the end of the year, word in the blogosphere has it.

Nevertheless, even if in poor quality and too short for some, this first look at “The Amazing Spider-Man” confirms what Garfield and director Webb have been saying all along: this is not Spider-Man as we’ve come to know him in Sam Raimi’s trilogy.

First of all, the story takes place before the events in Raimi’s first film in the franchise, when Peter is still in high school.

Secondly, just like Chris Nolan did with “Batman,” with this reboot, “Spider-Man” takes a more serious, less comic book-like tone, delving into themes previously left unexplored and, in the process, becoming many times grittier.

Check out that first trailer for “The Amazing Spider-Man” below or, if you want to be pleasantly surprised (which is what we recommend), keep an eye on this space for when the official version is out.
