The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly brings a major surprise for fans of the “Spider-Man” comics who are also looking forward to the new incarnation, with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. The mag comes with countless officially stills from the film.

With another year to go until “The Amazing Spider-Man” is out, fans should be happy to know that EW went to great lengths to find out as many details as possible about it to keep them going until release.

Among other things, it also got a brand new series of stills – and they’re definitely worth the time.

Some shots show Garfield in the Spider-Man costume and, if one is to believe what is now being said on dedicated forums, he makes for a pretty awesome superhero, albeit a more slender one.

Other pictures show the British actor as Peter Parker and, from the looks of things, he’s about to get himself in trouble, beaten and bruised pretty badly at least once.

One shot also shows one of the two villains of the upcoming reboot, as played by Rhys Ifans, while another has the two lovers (played by Garfield and Stone) gazing into the camera. They make a gorgeous pair.

Comic books geeks also get material that counts as food for thought, as Spider-Man’s old-school shooters (on his wrist, through which he shoots his web) get a photo all of their own, which means plenty of details to analyze and discuss about.

With “The Amazing Spider-Man” labeled as a reboot and not a sequel, and Garfield saying he wants to take the character into a direction Tobey Maguire never could – but not replace him – there still are some questions that need answering, IndieWire writes.

The most important seems to be, right now, how the upcoming “Spider-Man” will differ from Sam Raimi’s previous three.

“Ultimately what this movie is about is a kid who grows up looking for his father and finds himself. And that’s a Spider-Man story we haven’t seen before,” director Marc Webb says.

“‘Amazing’ is described as being ‘more contemporary,’ ‘more gritty,’ and ‘more character-driven’ than its predecessors. We’re not sure what ‘more contemporary’ means – maybe Peter Parker has a Google+ profile or struggles with Malick-ian existential ennui? – but it certainly seems it will be a bit more rough and tumble than Tobey Maguire‘s squeaky voiced incarnation,” IndieWire states.
