The upcoming Spider-Man film with Andrew Garfield as the lead is “the Spider-Man reboot” no more: it now has an official name to go by. “The Amazing Spider-Man” arrives in theaters on July 3, 2012 – and we even have a brand new photo of the superhero.

This is officially the first time that Sony shows fans how Spidey will look like with the mask on. Aside from countless on-set leaked photos, the studio has only released one picture of Garfield in character.

While that one showed him in costume but without his mask on, walking as if defeated without looking at the camera, this new shot allows for a more thorough observation of the detailing on the suit.

It also shows Garfield with his mask on – while leaving absolutely no doubt as to how the British actor, who is very slender by nature, had to put in the extra hours at the gym to get a Spidey-worthy physique.

“Columbia Pictures announced today that the title of the next Spider-Man film will be The Amazing Spider-Man,” Sony says in a press statement cited by Collider.

“The film, which is now in production and is being shot entirely in 3D, will be released on July 3, 2012. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field,” the statement further reads.

“The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko,” it notes.

Details on the plot are very sketchy at this point, but fans already know that the reboot is a prequel, in the sense that the action takes place before the Spider-Man films with Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker.

Earlier this month, on-set photos leaked online, with Garfield all suited up, getting physical with a man who played a robber. Reports at the time said there were 2 Spideys on set, but no word yet on what that may mean.
