British actor Andrew Garfield is now promoting two films, one of which has already run in theaters: “The Social Network” and “Never Let Me Go.” However, many of the questions in the latest Details issue have to do with his upcoming film, the rebooted “Spider-Man.”

When Garfield was announced as the official replacement of Tobey Maguire in the “Spider-Man” franchise, not few were those who looked in wonder, not knowing a thing about this newcomer.

Since then, he's become an international star, mostly thanks to his role in “The Social Network” and of that in the critically acclaimed “Never Let Me Go.”

With “Spider-Man,” Garfield will truly make it big, and this is something he's more than aware of. The pressure is pretty big too, even if he tries to downplay it by delicately avoiding questions about his next film.

“I really have no time to talk to you. I really should not be here right now. I should be worrying somewhere,” he laughs nervously when Details brings up the topic of “Spider-Man.”

Eventually, he gives in: he's been doing yoga and pilates to get in shape for the film, and he has moment when, just like his character Peter Parker, he doesn't know if he can pull off a convincing Spider-Man.

Unlike Parker, Garfield also knows he personally stands to disappoint millions of fans if his Spider-Man comes across as fake or, even worse, inefficient.

“I see it as a massive challenge in many ways. To make it authentic. To make the character live and breathe in a new way,” he tells Details.

“The audience already has a relationship with many different incarnations of the character. I do, as well. I’m probably going to be the guy in the movie theater shouting abuse at myself. But I have to let that go. No turning back. And I wouldn’t want to,” he adds.

As noted above, he's been training for the role for many months. The idea is not to build muscle mass but to get a flexible yet strong body, just suitable for Spider-Man.

“I want to feel stronger than I’ve ever felt, and I want to feel more flexible than I’ve ever felt. I want to feel powerful. You don’t just want to be a pack of meat – it has to be an open body. It does something to your psyche, and it does something to the way you move,” the actor explains.

In the same interview, Garfield also talks about Hollywood, whether he'd ever want to be part of the night life and the celebrity crowd, and what he makes of the whole fame game.
