Today, at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Sony Computer Entertainment and Immersion have announced their partnership to start working on what could mean a force feedback or rumble for the PS3's controller, the SIXAXIS.

Immersion CEO Victor Viegas stated: "We are pleased to have put this litigation behind us. Our new business agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation gaming community. We are happy to provide our technology in this regard and hope to make technical proposals very soon with respect to use of our technology in the PlayStation products."

So it's more than clear what Immersion's CEO is saying when he uses the words "advanced vibration capability." Finally, some rumble for the PS3's SIXAXIS. Immersion will be handling everything regarding damages, pre-judgment interest, costs, interest and license fees. Sony's spokesman at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit also said that the company is looking forward to the new partnership with Immersion: "We look forward to exploring with Immersion exciting new ways to bring the largest and best range of gameplay experiences to our customers. We are very excited about our new partnership with Immersion and the potential for new and innovative products incorporating their technologies."

Let's just hope that Sony's partnership with Immersion will bring more than the "Sensor FX Feedback System" solution from SplitFish and that players will be able to actually feel something, rather than have a small impression of what should be "Force Feedback."
