While Best Buy sells them for $60, Apple Stores practically give them away for free -$19

I bet you didn't know exactly how big of a price difference you'll find by checking out several stores, trying to buy a HDMI video cable for your PS3. For your information, if the cable you're so desperately trying to buy happens to be under a Sony label, it'll obviously have a Sony-kind-of-price, somewhere between $50 and $100 but if you're a patient fellow and visit more stores (not advised by Sony of course), you'll be surprised to see that the very same HDMI cable is priced starting at $19.

In between these totally different prices for the same damn product, you'll surely find some HDMI cables priced at $60, $70 and even $100, although it's not Sony licensed. Opposable Thumbs even made up a list of stores selling the cable. Stores like Best Buy or Apple Store for example have a $40 difference between them regarding HDMI cables, as Best Buy tries to shove it down the PS3 owner's throats for $60, while Apple is practically giving it away for free at only $19.

So why would a person do something as stupid as going over to Best Buy, or better yet to Sony, and pay an incredibly high price for a component cable that can easily be purchased for less than half that price. Well, it's only because big, important companies like Sony encourage PlayStation owners to buy only Sony licensed products for their machine, as only those will provide perfect compatibility, thus resulting in best use of the machine. Uhum...

So if I were to buy a non licensed HDMI cable for my PS3, the picture will not be of the same quality, right? Wrong! Information passes the same through any cable, heck... you can even make your own HDMI cable with some copper wires and the appropriate sockets, but that's not advisable. My point is that every time you purchase an electronic 'something', you mainly pay for the label. The only real difference between all the cables of all brands is going to be how long they will last. Their performance however will be the same, so even if you spend more time checking out more shops, it's worth saving a buck.
