Sony's Phil Harrison wasn't lying when he said they were working close with the developer

An entry posted by Michael Shorrock up on Sony's PlayStation.Blog, the Director of 3rd Party Relations at SCEA talks about this exclusive PS3 franchise coming from Rockstar, the developing team behind the Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt franchises. Shorrok says this is a brand new game, not a detective thriller L.A. Noir, as 1UP.com points out, but a game crafted especially to take advantage of the PS3's enormous processing power.

"Everyone knows to have success in this business you need to look ahead, identifying the talent and titles that are going to give consumers new kinds of gaming experiences that help set the bar for the rest of the industry," reads the entry. "Rockstar has a heritage for doing just that. We have had incredible success with the GTA franchise and are happy to continue to offer those titles on our platforms, and even more excited about what's to come from the current and future relationship between our companies. Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that. This is really a win-win situation for both companies."

If you can remember, an interview with Sony's Phil Harrison earlier this month revealed that Sony was indeed "working close" with the developer of the GTA series, but it did not say on what exactly. Harrison's statement at that time...: "As the head of the [internal Sony] studios it's hard for me to comment on the third party relations, so I don't know the details of that -- we deliberately keep those separate -- but we have a great relationship with Rockstar and we're actually working closely with them on a number of initiatives, so I do know some things that are going on but I'm not able to share those with you now."

With Shorrok's blog post in front of us, we clearly see that Sony wants everyone to know what they're doing. Phil Harrison was somewhat compelled to reveal some of the company's secrets at the time the upper mentioned interview took place, but Shorrok's post shows that Sony is ready to make a big announcement. Don't go too far. I promise you we're going to hear something big from Sony very soon.
