Or at least that's what SCEE's head, David Reeves, is implying

That's right, instead of praising the PS3 and especially the 80GB SKU, Sony's David Reeves says in an interview that the extra 20GB of HDD space isn't all that much of an impressive feature. Is it normal for a Sony representative to go and say a thing like this...?

Without further ado, here's David Reeves' (head of SCEE) statement, courtesy of 1UP.com: "You know, the difference between 60 and 80GB is very small," he said. "We just feel that going up 20GB is not worth it; if you're going to double it, it's worth it, so maybe you'll see something a little bit later, but 60 and 80 -- [there's] really not that much difference."

Great job, Mr. Reeves, what's next: tell people to forget that the PS3 even exists and go for Microsoft's machine? Honestly, how do they even expect people to buy the PS3 just shifting the previous $599 price tag for the 60GB PS3, to the 80GB SKU and above all, admitting that they're not offering that much either - just 20 gigs of extra space and better viewing pleasure, which quite frankly cannot be observed unless you have a state-of-the-art TV set.

Sony's David Reeves does make an interesting statement - regardless of all the uninspired talk - and that is: "... if you're going to double it, it's worth it..." Sounds like we're in for a good 120GB-PS3 rumor. Not that no one's thought about it before, but it would make perfect sense too. Look at it this way:

■ Sony hasn't actually cut the price on their machine, but rather moved the original $499 and $599 to the currently available systems, the 60GB PS3 and the 80GB model, respectively; ■ had Sony invested a significant effort into making the machine more affordable, Microsoft would have been compelled to do the same; ■ since this is not the situation here, Microsoft doesn't have to move a toe in order to provide a more affordable machine, which doesn't do much less than Sony's anyway; ■ thus, Sony might just have to come up with the 120GB PS3 eventually, in order to at least provide the same storage space, if price is out of the question.

120GB PS3 or not, David Reeves surely hasn't picked the best words in his statement. Then again, a little sincerity doesn't hurt either.
