Surely the retailer is handling thousands of orders as we speak

On GameStop.com there's a 20GB PS3 for the incredibly low price (NOT!) of $449.99. What is up with that? Who expects who to buy a 20GB PS3 for just 50 bucks less the price of the 60GB SKU, which currently sells so and so (if not worse) everywhere on the globe? Does the 20 gig model even feature backwards compatibility...?

Let me tell you what the 60GB and 80GB PS3 models have above the 20GB SKU and why no one in their right mind would get GameStop's 20GB PS3. In addition to all of the features of the 20GB model, the 60GB PS3 has internal IEEE 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, multiple flash card readers (SD/MultiMedia Card, CompactFlash, Memory Stick) and a nicely crafted chrome colored trim. What? It makes a heck of a difference if you've got rapper friends.

As far as hardware is concerned, the 80GB model released in Korea is identical to the 60GB model released in European territories, except for the difference in hard drive size, while IPTV compatibility is supported through software. Meaning...? Meaning that it could also be added to the 20GB and 60GB models of the console respectively. The 60GB model may, or may not benefit from this, it's really up to Sony, but as far as the 20GB PS3 is concerned, nothing is going to change no matter what (except for issues fixed by firmware updated that is).

It is nonetheless a PlayStation 3 console. It's true that there are only 20 gigs of available disk space included, but that isn't generally an issue. However, who'd buy a 20GB PS3, when Sony is prepping to cut the price on their console by another hundred bucks, bringing the 60GB model to a very affordable $399.99? That's even cheaper than today's offer. Of course, those 5 Blu-ray movies that come with the purchase of a PS3 console are irresistible.
