Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation announced officially on Thursday the launch of its HTC HD2 in India. The handset, which has been officially unveiled to the world back in October, runs under Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, and is the first Windows phone from the company to also include the HTC Sense solution.

The HTC HD2 comes to the market with a high-resolution 4.3-inch capacitive touch display, a slim form factor, and can provide an enhanced experience to all users. The handset offers easy viewing, zooming and resizing of websites, PDF documents, pictures or Microsoft Office files, all via a simple pinch of the finger.

“HTC HD2 is the first Windows phone to embody the HTC Sense user interface, which makes the phone much more intuitive, engaging and a pleasure to use. Powered by Windows Mobile 6.5, the HD2 blends cutting-edge technology and stylish looks to deliver a smooth and superior experience to the customers”, said Mr Ajay Sharma, country head, HTC India.

The new HTC Windows phone packs inside a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, which enables enhanced performance, faster applications, as well as a great viewing of videos and games on its large display, not to mention a faster and more accurate typing. Moreover, it provides impressive email capabilities, with support for Microsoft Exchange, as well as access to the Windows Marketplace for Mobile and to the MyPhone service from Microsoft.

The handset arrives in India along with an exclusive offer from TATA DOCOMO. Users who will purchase the HTC HD2 will also receive “an exclusive offer to browse the Internet and download 500MB of data per month free for a period of 6 months,” the carrier announced. The HTC HD2 will arrive in India priced at Rs 39,990 in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, and Rs 36,990 in the other parts of the country.

“TATA DOCOMO is a young brand that recently rolled out GSM services across 15 Circles within a span of five months and has received an enthusiastic response. When we launched our GSM services, we had promised our subscribers that we would bring to them the best products and services. Living up to that brand promise, we are launching the HTC HD2 phones for our customers. Infact we will be premiering the HTC HD2 exclusively at TATA DOCOMO Dive-In stores so that customers may have a first hand experience of the world’s biggest touch screen phone,” Mr Gurinder Singh Sandhu, chief marketing officer, TATA DOCOMO, said.
