Canadian mobile phone carrier Rogers is the last wireless services provider in the country to make available for download the Android 2.2 Froyo software update for the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate owners on its airwaves.

While other carriers in the country already made the move, Rogers was a little late to the party, though it hints now on its website at the availability of the new software update.

As the guys over at MobileSyrup note, the new software update is available for download via Samsung Kies, the same as it was for the other Galaxy S models sold on the Canadian market.

The wireless services provider has put on its website detailed information on what one would have to do to get through the process of upgrading the SGH-I896 Galaxy S Captivate to the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system version.

The update would have to be performed via a Windows PC, on which the aforementioned Samsung Kies application should be installed (the software is available for download from Softpedia too, via this link). The Samsung Galaxy S Captivate needs to be connected to the PC via a USB cable.

According to Samsung and Rogers, some of the main benefits of the new software update include: - Adobe Flash Player 10.1 – for a better web browsing experience - Faster Performance – faster website loading and device navigation - Better for Business – with enhanced exchange integration and new security features.

The Samsung Galaxy S has already proved to be one of the most popular smartphones on the market, with over 10 million units sold in about 7 months, and the Android 2.2 Froyo update easily makes it even more appealing that it already is.

The update was already delivered to most Galaxy S users around the world, and the Canadians received it as well. What remains to be seen is when Samsung makes the software available for download in the United States as well, since nothing has been announced on the matter until now.
