Espoo, Finland-based mobile phone maker Nokia has just released a new software update for its flagship Symbian-based Nokia N97 device, namely firmware version 22.0.110. The software upgrade is now available for download over the air, weighing in at 5MB, but should become available via Nokia Software Updater too in the near future. The new firmware version 22.0.110 follows the previously released software v21.0.102, and comes around with a great deal of enhancements, including Ovi Maps 3.03 with the free navigation, which should offer users the possibility to enjoy around 10MB more free space on the device.

The release notes for the new firmware version 22.0.110 released for the Nokia N97 reportedly include (via All About Symbian): - Maps 3.03 with free Navigation - Default screen brightness raised to 75% - Default theme now the jet black 'Nseries 2', giving longer battery life than the previous 'Nseries 3' - RAM optimizations - Miscellaneous bug fixes

One thing that should be noted here is that Maps 3.03 is not the latest flavor of the solution available from Nokia (Ovi Maps 3.04 has been released a while ago). A hard reset of the device after the installation of the new firmware update should provide users with around 55MB of free space on C: and with around 60MB of free RAM, it seems. The high-end Nokia N97 comes with User Data Preservation, which means that one's personal files on the device should live untouched through the update process. However, backing up all important info on the phone prior to launching the process might always prove a great option.

The installation should take only a few minutes. Following the update, users should consider performing that hard reset of their mobile phone, just to make sure that they benefit from the best performance levels from their device. According to All About Symbian, the Nokia N97 mini is also expected to receive a new software update, version v12, which should bring forth the same features as v22 would bring on N97.
