14 DAY TRIAL // Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced last week that users of a Nokia smartphone could currently enjoy free Ovi Maps on their devices, and now the new feature is expanded to a wide range of customers. The free Ovi Maps are not available on all Nokia devices, but Nokia N97 owners don't have to worry about this anymore starting Wednesday, January 27.
All users of a Nokia N97 who have already installed on their devices the latest firmware version available for them, namely software version 2.0.x have now the possibility to download and install the free Ovi Maps. The solution is now available for download for N97 via the Software Update, and is said to weigh around 8MB.
“The hugely popular new Ovi Maps updated with free walk and drive navigation for life is now available for Nokia N97 users to download. This Ovi Maps update can be downloaded by N97 users who have installed phone software version 2.0.x. The new Ovi Maps is available through the software update client in the device. You simply open the Applications Folder, Software Update client (big green arrow) and choose the new Ovi Maps from the list,” a recent post on Nokia Conversations notes.
Those who own a Nokia N97, but haven't updated yet to the latest software version, can do so via the Nokia Software Updater. To check on the software version available on their handsets, users can type *#0000# on the homescreen. On the downside, it seems that the firmware version 2.0.x is not available in all regions at the moment, though it is expected to arrive shortly in more areas.
According to the guys over at allaboutsymbian, Nokia N97 owners should be warned on the fact that the Ovi Maps 3.3 solution for their devices occupies a lot of disk space, and that one should actually consider waiting for the software to come via a firmware update. In case there are those who can hardly wait to try out the new free Ovi Maps on their N97, all they need to do is fire up the Software Update and download it.
