14 DAY TRIAL // The owners of a Nokia handset can now try out a new software solution the Finnish mobile phone maker has recently made available for them. We're talking about Nokia Software Updater, which was released on Wednesday in a new a beta version, namely 3.0.72, with a wide range of enhancements on the user experience side, it seems. The new Nokia Software Updater 3.0.72 beta comes straight from the Nokia Beta Labs, and is meant to be installed on a Windows-based computer to enable users update the software solution on their Nokia handsets.
“The Nokia Software Updater is a basic application just for updating and recovering software. This release candidate supports device application updates and one-click update experience. This release also has totally new look and feel,” the application is described on Nokia Beta Labs. Previous versions of the solution came with support for Windows 7, along with improvements for USB connectivity, while the new one shows focus on the user experience, it seems.
“Note that this release candidate is still in the development phase, and the plan is to keep the trial ongoing until the end of August. We will release updates here based on the feedback we receive (critical improvements will be prioritized), but would also like to gather improvement ideas for future releases. We would like to hear especially if you have any problems with updating the device applications,” the development team notes in a recent blog post. According to them, any enhancements brought to Nokia Software Updater should be implemented in Nokia Ovi Suite too.
What should be noted here is that the new version of Nokia Software Updater wont install pre-release versions of Nokia device software. In other words, one won't be able to install new firmware solutions or application updates on their handsets unless they were released in the final version. Moreover, users should note that new software updates are released on different markets at different times, which means that the application might not show new firmware available for certain users.
