New secret projects await the team

Halo is one of the most popular gaming series out there, having won over a huge number of fans when the first title, Halo: Combat Evolved, shot its way onto the original Xbox. The great single player mode featuring Master Chief and the top notch multiplayer experience are something that other game developers are still trying to equal and overtake.

With the last shooter title in franchise, Halo 3, the studio that developed the series for Microsoft, Bungie, has detached itself from the giant software and games corporation and is now completely independent. But although ties with Microsoft will be severed very soon, the studio is still working on the Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack and the expansion to Halo 3, entitled ODST.

With such ties between Bungie and Halo, a lot of fans hoped that the studio would keep on making other titles set in the Halo universe. Sadly, such a thing is impossible, as community director Brian Jarrard shared with IGN the fact that the studio might continue its work on other projects.

"These days, we've got a smaller team that's focused on finishing the ODST campaign and all that it entails while the rest of the studio continues making progress on other, larger, secret projects. Once the Mythic maps are released this Spring, fans will still be able to look forward to a few more exclusive new maps that will be included in the Halo 3: ODST release later this Fall. Overall though, we are viewing the ODST campaign and the included multiplayer maps as the final exclamation point in our ongoing efforts to extend the Halo 3 experience. We're really grateful to our fans for standing by Halo 3 for so long and continuing to show us such strong support."

Although these statements might seem like bad news for a lot of Halo fans, let's not forget that a studio isn't tied to one single franchise. Hopefully, we'll get to see the secret projects that the studio currently has underway and who are the publishers it teams up in order to release them.
