Taking extra time to ensure a quality experience isn’t a bad thing, Gearbox believes

Aliens: Colonial Marines received a launch date earlier this week and now Gearbox Software, the developer of the game, has revealed a few more details about its strategy concerning the tactical shooter.

Aliens: Colonial Marines has been in development for quite some time, as part of a collaboration between Fox, Sega, and Gearbox Software.

While the game was shrouded in a veil of secrecy for many years, the companies started unveiling more and more details recently, and they even promised that the game would come out this spring.

Sadly, that didn’t happen, as Sega delayed it into fall of this year and, as you saw earlier this week, it pushed it back once more, giving it a concrete release date of February 12, 2013.

According to Gearbox Software’s CEO and President, Randy Pitchford, the high standards the team set for the experience would, in the end, pay off, despite the delays.

“Our vision has been to create a video game sequel to the original Alien trilogy. Our vision is for the game to be fully featured with an exciting, suspenseful, thrilling and action packed narrative campaign that can be played alone or cooperatively combined with a robust competitive game where human players can take on the roles of Colonial Marines or Xenomorphs and do battle online. The game must be authentic.”

The game also needs to delight not just loyal fans of the franchise, but also those who are completely new to the series.

“It must complement, but not re-tell the events of the films. It must deliver an original story and fresh experience that, for those of us who grew up loving the Aliens films, builds and expands upon those events, but also stand on its own for those of us who may never have seen the movies.”

Gearbox has plenty of time to make sure that Colonial Marines will be an impressive experience, thanks to this new February launch date.
