Sega and Gearbox Software have revealed a brand-new release date for Aliens: Colonial Marines, namely February 12, 2013, alongside a fresh video and some more details about the development process.

Aliens: Colonial Marines was announced many years ago as a partnership between Fox, Sega, and Gearbox. Since then, the studio has worked on multiple projects and this led to a lengthy period of silence concerning the Aliens title.

In more recent times, we heard a lot about Colonial Marines, which had even received a spring, 2012 release window, but it was quickly pushed back to fall, 2012, earlier this year.

Now, Sega and Gearbox have arrived with a new release date – this time a concrete one – in the form of February 12, 2013.

“If you have had that feeling that you’ve been waiting a long time, then today should be a good day for you,” said Gearbox CEO and President, Randy Pitchford.

“We have an official, solid launch date for the game! We’re now at a point in development when we can see the end – we know what’s left to do and can sufficiently quantify it to be very confident in the schedule for the game’s completion and commercial release!”

Pitchford went on to say that Aliens: Colonial Marines might have spent a long time in development, but this was only because it was announced before work had even started on the project. Overall, according to him, Gearbox spent as much time on the game as it did on the first Borderlands or on the original Brothers in Arms title.

Even so, in order to make up for this new delay, Gearbox, together with Sega, has presented a brand-new video for Aliens: Colonial Marines, called Suspense, which amps up the survival horror aspects of the tactical shooter.
