The sci-fi tactical shooter won't make its intended release date

Sega and Gearbox Software have confirmed that Aliens: Colonial Marines, their tactical shooter that’s been a long time in development, has been delayed once again and is now scheduled to arrive this fall.

Aliens: Colonial Marines was announced many years ago by Sega, with the team at Gearbox Software working hard on the project since then. After quite a big period of radio silence, the companies have started releasing small details about the game, including screenshots.

Sega even confirmed back in 2011 that the title would make its appearance this spring.

Sadly, that release date has now been changed, as Gearbox gave a statement to CVG, saying that the team wanted to focus on making Colonial Marines the best Aliens interactive experience ever, and that the game was going to appear sometime towards the end of the year.

"Aliens: Colonial Marines is a process of creativity and invention and those don't necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line," said a Gearbox representative about the delay.

"While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective. We don't want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blue print. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blue print because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date."

While the representative declined to reveal when the game would actually appear, the official website of Aliens: Colonial Marines specifies a fall launch, instead of the old spring one.

We’ve heard quite a few things about the game recently and even checked out an image of a possible Collector’s Edition for the game, which included quite a lot of real life and in-game goodies, from an Alien statue to special packaging and bonus weapons.

Given this new delay, don’t expect any other details about the game anytime soon.
