The carrier has it for $149.99

A few days ago, wireless operator AT&T has put on sale its first webOS-based smartphone, the Palm Pre Plus, which is available for purchase from the carrier for $149.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement. However, it seems that a better deal has been recently put in place for those AT&T users willing to try out the Palm Pre Plus, one that comes from Amazon.

Those interested in Palm's webOS-based smartphone on AT&T's network can acquire the device from Amazon for only $49.99, a whooping $100 less than what the carrier asks for it. Of course, the two-year contract agreement is still required, yet those who do not wish to commit to one can get the phone at full retail, case in which they will have to pay $499.99 for it.

One thing that should be mentioned here is that the $149.99 price tag Palm Pre Plus features on AT&T's website also includes a “free” Touchstone charger in the package. On the other hand, the Palm Pre Plus is currently available at Verizon Wireless for only $49.99, while the original Palm Pre can be acquired from Sprint for free, which makes Amazon's offer much more appealing than AT&T's.

This is not the first time when a device is available via an online retailer for less than what the wireless carrier asks for it. Moreover, it might not come as a surprise either if AT&T cuts the price tag for the device too, for other operators have done the same not too long after the initial launch. Given the fact that Pre Plus is a great device, we can only hope that the move will be made in the near future.

In case there are some unfamiliar with what the handset has to offer, we should mention that it comes with a 3.1-inch touchscreen display, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, a 3-megapixel photo snapper, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, built-in GPS receiver, 16 GB of internal memory, a 1150 mAh battery, a wide range of messaging features, including email, IM, SMS, MMS, in addition to fast Internet connectivity.
