Back in December 2014, Micromax subsidiary Yu launched the first 64-bit CyanogenMod-based smartphone which sold in India for an extremely affordable $142 / €115 price.

The smartphone immediately became quite popular, and Yu decided that an improved version of the Yureka might interest a lot of smartphone enthusiasts in the country. So this week, the company has unveiled the Yureka Plus model, which comes with an improved display and new camera.

The screen size remains the same as before, meaning that customers picking up the Yureka Plus will be offered a 5.5-inch device with 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080) instead of 720p (1280 x 720).

The second major change on the Yureka Plus is an improved camera sensor. Yu now employs the services of a 13MP Sony IMX214 sensor with 5-element Largan Blue lens and f/2.2 architecture.

While the resolution remains the same as before, the new sensor should bring noticeable improvements to the overall quality of the shoots.

Yu upgrades its already popular Yureka smartphone

The selfie snapper is still of 5MP caliber, while most of the other specs also remain unchanged. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor fitted with 2GB DDR3 RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot).

While the original Yureka shipped out with Cyanogen 11, which was based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat (an update was made available since then), the Yureka Plus comes with Cyanogen 12 out of the box.

The handset also has dual-SIM capabilities, LTE and a 2,500 mAh battery.

Last month, we told you that Yu was readying the latest Cyanogen 12.1 update, which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, for the Yureka, but also for the more recent Yuphoria model.

The update is yet to be released, and when it does, it will probably include the Yureka Plus model as well.

The Yuphoria launched back in May 2015 with a 5-inch display with 720p resolution, a Snapdragon 410 under the hood, and Cyanogen 12 out of the box.

Going back to the Yureka Plus, the phone is already available on Amazon in Moondust Gray and Alabaster White for approximately $157 / €144.
