The handset should make it out in October

Back in early September, Micromax’s new branch YU revealed a super affordable handset called Yunique. But before the handset became official, there was talk of another YU smartphone, one with a super premium set of specifications.

During the Yunique launch, YU stayed silent about the high-end device, but luckily, this week we are able to bring you fresh information about the phone. A source talking to BGR India has revealed that the handset called Yutopia (codenamed Project Achilles internally) will soon be launching in India under the slogan “the world’s most powerful smartphone.”

YU founder, Rahul Sharma, has also tweeted about the phone recently, saying we should be expecting a real beast. However, he has not shared with us any specifications of the device. While we’re not 100% sure yet, the Yutopia could be the YU 5050 that leaked in benchmarks with full specs a while ago.

YU prepares a super powerful smartphone

The Yutopia is supposed to make a debut into the wild with a 5.2-inch display with either 1080p or 2K (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, depending on the model. Breathing life from under the hood is a Snapdragon 810 processor in combination with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There is also a 3GB option for those who are on a tighter budget.

Furthermore, the Yutopia will probably take advantage of a 21MP rear camera plus an 8MP front facing one. It’s important to note that so far YU has only launched smartphones under the $151 / €131 threshold. But this new high-end monster will surely come with a more expensive price tag. Although it will be interesting to see whether YU manages to keep things from going over the top.

With increasing competition coming in from virtually everywhere, YU had to re-group and produce a flagship device that could compete with the likes of Xiaomi and OnePlus. OnePlus has just unveiled its second premium product, and we expect that Xiaomi will release the Mi5 flagship by the end of the year.
