The MIUI 13 update will only launch next month

Xiaomi has recently announced the new Xiaomi 12 Series, and while the device features high-end specifications, including the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, there’s bad news in terms of software.

The new devices, both the standard and the Pro models, would run Android 11 when they launch later this week in China. That’s quite surprising given Android 12 is already rolling out to more and more devices out there, but Xiaomi only plans to begin the rollout of MIUI 13 next month.

So if you buy the Xiaomi 12 right now, the device would come with Android 11 out of the box, while the Android 12-based MIUI 13 will land on the phone starting with January.

“Select features will be available for global versions of MIUI 13. Global users can expect OTA updates of MIUI 13 starting from Q1 2022. First batch of models available for upgrade include Mi 11, Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11i, Mi 11X Pro, Mi 11X, Xiaomi Pad 5, Redmi 10, Redmi 10 Prime, Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE, Xiaomi 11 Lite NE, Redmi Note 8 (2021), Xiaomi 11T Pro, Xiaomi 11T, Redmi Note 10 Pro, Redmi Note 10 Pro Max, Redmi Note 10, Mi 11 Lite 5G, Mi 11 Lite, and Redmi Note 10 JE,” Xiaomi explains.

Rollout starting in early 2022

Needless to say, the company praises the improvements it made in the new MIUI version, explaining that it feels some 50 percent snappier than its predecessor.

“MIUI 13 focuses on improving core functions, with an overall fluidity increase of 52%. Further enhancing its self-developed Focused Algorithms, Atomized Memory, and Liquid Storage, the new system focuses on optimizing computing capabilities for core apps during heavy usage. MIUI 13 prevents and reduces deterioration of read-write capabilities through Atomized Memory and Liquid Storage technology by 5% over a 36-month period—prolonging the lifespan of devices,” it says.

The rollout of MIUI 13 to the devices mentioned above will obviously take place in stages.
