14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 Mobile is doomed, or at least, that’s what everyone seems to think these days, with almost nobody investing in the platform. Microsoft and the majority of developers have already given up on the operating system, while users are one by one switching to Android and iOS as well.
And yet, here comes Willeyfox, an Android phone manufacturer who for some reason decided that Windows 10 Mobile is worth another chance and developed a device running it.
Presented at IFA this year, the Willeyfox Pro is a mid-range device that’s specifically aimed at businesses, and not at the consumer market. CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood, who discovered the device at IFA and published a bunch of photos on Twitter (also included in the photo gallery below) says that “Microsoft approached them to do it,” so it wasn’t a decision that Willeyfox made all by itself.
Mid-range specs
And even though this device breathes some life into Microsoft’s dying platform, it’s nothing that you should be super-excited about because the specs are just average with nothing too surprising.
The Willeyfox Pro, which will market with the slogan “We don’t compromise, so you don’t either,” comes with a 5-inch IPS HD display and is powered by a Snapdragon 210 chip paired with 2GB RAM. It also features an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel front-facing unit, as well as a 2100 mAh battery that’s not clear if can get you through the day too easily.
The new Windows phone will be available for €249 (which is approximately $295), though once again, it won’t be offered to consumers in stores, but likely to be exclusively sold through B2B contracts, if anyone is interested in such a product, of course.
For what it’s worth, Microsoft has also heavily discounted the much more capable Alcatel IDOL 4S in its own stores, with the device now available for just $199 with VR goggles included.
