14 DAY TRIAL // Since many believe Windows Phone doesn't stand a chance against Android and iOS since Microsoft's operating system has such a low market share worldwide, the folks over at PhoneDesigner have decided to end it with a bang.
The Lumia – Dead Edition is a concept that wants to be the cross on Windows Phone's grave that many sought to dig. To highlight the fact that this is a parody concept, the folks at PhoneDesigner decided the Lumia – Dead Edition should have an unusual form factor.
When we said that Lumia – Dead Edition is the cross on Windows Phone's grave, it was not a joke. The smartphone does feature a cross form factor, which doesn't look bad at all.
Obviously, a cross smartphone would be pretty unusual to carry around, though easy to keep in your pocket. As much as we would want to try such a device, we will probably never see it on the market since there's no technological solution available yet.
Microsoft recently reported it has shipped 4.5 million Lumia smartphones in Q4 2015, which is less than half of the number recorded during the same period in 2014.
Very low market share puts Windows Phone in difficulty
Windows Phone has around 2% market share worldwide, which puts Microsoft's mobile operating system at a tremendous disadvantage. Although Microsoft is struggling to release Windows 10 Mobile in the next couple of weeks, last year the Redmond-based company announced a change in strategy.
The new strategy implies fewer Lumia smartphones launched per year, which probably will translate in less revenue for the mobile division.
Since Microsoft acquired Nokia, Windows Phone performed worse every year. Microsoft wishes to change that and cut its losses by compacting its smartphone business.
One of the first smartphones to be launched by Microsoft this year, the Lumia 650 missed the rumored February 1 launch date.
Microsoft Lumia 650 is a low- to mid-range smartphone powered by Windows 10 Mobile that is less likely to improve operating system's standings.
