The controller will be supported in the entire ecosystem

Microsoft used this year’s E3 conference to take the wraps off the new Xbox One S, and together with this upgraded yet smaller model, the company also introduced a new Bluetooth controller that opens the door to a richer set of connectivity options that involve other devices too.

And it appears that these other devices also include phones powered by Windows 10 Mobile, as a Microsoft executive has recently confirmed for WindowsCentral that this is indeed possible as long as developers integrate support for the Xbox controller in their games.

“That's something that developers have to write to at a game level. Capability-wise, this works across the Windows 10 ecosystem. It's a huge advantage that this controller will work seamlessly across the whole ecosystem,” Xbox Services GM, Dave McCarthy, is quoted as saying when talking about the possibility of getting the controller up and running on mobile devices.

“Committed to Windows phones”

That’s definitely good news for Windows 10 Mobile fans who hope to see their platform involved in all future Microsoft projects, especially in the context of the recent company changes that more or less put the future of Windows phones in doubt.

Earlier today, we’ve told you that Microsoft made no mention of Windows phones at E3, and although many claimed that the company wasn’t even expected to talk about mobile plans since this was a gaming event, it does make sense to see Windows 10 Mobile at least mentioned since it’s part of the Windows 10 effort.

And fortunately, it appears that, although the company didn’t talk about Windows 10 Mobile during its keynote, there still are plans to include this OS version in these gaming improvements, and adding support for the new controller is the first step.

Now the only thing that’s left is for developers to join this effort with their upcoming titles, so fortunately, it appears that Windows 10 Mobile still has a place in Microsoft’s Windows 10 gaming vision.
