14 DAY TRIAL // The new Xbox One S, which got leaked only a few hours ago, is now official, as Microsoft has taken the wraps off its smallest Xbox ever that comes with important hardware upgrades over the existing model.
According to Microsoft itself, the new Xbox One S is 40 percent smaller than the regular Xbox One and brings some new options, including the possibility of standing vertically, as compared to the original model, which can only be used horizontally.
Aesthetically, the new Xbox One S comes with a more beautiful look and is available in white with several touches here and there. For example, a Kinect sensor port is no longer available, so a USB port must also be used in this regard. On the other hand, the Xbox One S comes with a built-in IR sensor.
But while the Xbox One looks very good, it’s also very important to note that it features major hardware upgrades, starting with support for 4K resolution. The device thus supports HDR not only for video but also for gaming, so the new console is specifically tailored for the new-generation games.
Several storage options
The device will come with a 2 TB hard drive, which will be available for $399, but two other models will also be offered with 500 GB and 1 TB for $299 and $349, respectively.
“The Xbox One S for us was a realization that first, we want to make a smaller Xbox, but there was also some capability that we saw growing out in the market around HDR and 4K video. So we said, if we’re going to do an upgrade to our console, let’s go ahead and embrace some of the technologies that are coming and make those part of our core SKU,” Xbox head Phil Spencer has announced.
The new Xbox One S will go on sale in early August, Microsoft says, and the 2 TB version will be available as a limited edition, so you'd better hurry up if you want to buy it.
