This build might corrupt Start experience in some scenarios

We reported earlier today about the newest Windows 10 Mobile preview build released by Microsoft and highlighted the main bug fixes and improvements included, as well as the fact that there aren't any new major features added.

However, as with every preview build released by Microsoft, Windows 10 Mobile build 10581 comes with some bugs that haven't been addressed by developers yet.

The good news is that Microsoft has already made a list with some of the most annoying issues that you might encounter in this build, so if you don't like them, you can wait for a better build to be released.

That being said, it looks like the most annoying issue for some Windows Insiders is the fact that this build might corrupt the Start experience, but only when you restore a backup from a phone that had a different resolution.

The good news is there's a workaround that should fix this issue. So, you will have to head over to Action Center, then go to Settings / Personalization / Start and apply a different background picture. That should solve all the Start experience corruption.

Apps moved to an SD card might crash afterwards

Another issue mentioned by Microsoft is present in previous builds as well. It looks like after applying the update, the device may display a black screen for about 5 minutes while transitioning between the spinning gears and the final stages of update.

According to Microsoft, Insiders shouldn't be worried since the update should progress further, but the exact time will vary by device.

Also, users who install this build won't be able to set their default save locations via Settings / System / Storage, which will not correctly reflect the current storage settings.

Apparently, if you use an SD card, it will show up as a garbled name in Storage settings. However, if you had configured something for your save locations in the previous build, it will remain the same.

Furthermore, after moving apps to an SD card, those apps might crash. In order to solve this issue, simply reboot the phone.

Last but not least, deploying Silverlight apps via Visual Studio to the phone will not work in build 10581. On the bright side, you will be able to deploy UWP apps to the phone.
