The release is expected to take place this week

It’s been a while since we received a new Windows 10 Mobile build, but Microsoft is now swearing that a new version is coming out this week, so keep your fingers crossed because today might be the day.

Gabriel Aul, the chief of the Windows Insider program, has explained that the next build that would be released to users is currently being internally tested by the Operating Systems Group and could be shipped to users anytime soon.

As we’ve already told you, Microsoft doesn’t usually launch new builds on Mondays, Fridays, and weekends, so the company could decide to release the new version in just a few hours.

And according to Aul, build 10536 is very likely to be the one, as it’s already in the slow ring of OSG and work on it advances at a satisfying pace.

All builds are tested in two internal rings

Before pushing any new version to users, Microsoft first conducts a thorough testing internally with the help of two different rings called OSG Fast and OSG Slow. The former is the first to get newly compiled builds, while the latter starts testing when the most critical bugs are fixed.

If the remaining issues are repaired, Microsoft then pushes the build to the fast ring of the Windows Insider program. When all the other problems found by users are addressed too, the build can be shipped to the public slow ring.

“When we release builds to Insiders, even on the Fast ring, we want to make sure people can do everyday activities on their phones - answering phone calls, sending and receiving text messages, installing and using apps, and all of the other basics. We may have some issues (which we’ll note as known issues for builds we flight), but we know we get the best feedback from Insiders who are really able to use these builds normally and then tell us what they think,” Aul explains.

The next build should be directly upgradeable, so make sure your phone is fully charged later today to be the first to get it in case Microsoft indeed pushes the green button.
