Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 build 10166 for PCs yesterday and now the company shipped the exact same version for phone users, thus moving to a faster release cadence as part of the Windows Insider program.

The new Windows 10 Mobile build 10166 is only available for users enrolled in the fast ring and Microsoft says that it's full of small changes and feature tweaks, greatly improving the experience you got in build 10149.

In a post today, Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, says that the majority of bugs that we discovered in the previous version are no longer there, including the one that caused the lock screen to appear frozen for nearly 10 minutes after upgrading.

Plenty of bug fixes

Microsoft removed the old store from this build, so you get a completely new experience when trying to download new apps in Windows 10 Mobile 10166.

“The post-upgrade migration status screen should appear normally now. We also fixed the issue where you were unable to unlock your phone after entering your PIN and it keeps letting you type even though you entered your pin correctly that was caused by a TPM issue. The colors in apps should now appear correctly including in including the titlebar in the Outlook Mail app which is no longer orange,” Gabe Aul explained.

The battery icon is also a little bit bigger and app updates have also been delivered, with Aul explaining that the development team focused specifically on improving the app performance in this new build.

Keep in mind that although Windows 10 Mobile build 10166 is specifically focused on fixing bugs and other issues, it's still pre-release software, so a number of bugs could still be there. Living proof is that it's currently available for the fast track only, so if you want more stable experience, wait until it reaches the slow ring too.
