Microsoft’s getting ready for the grand debut of Windows 10 on PCs next week, but in the meantime, the Windows team continues work on the mobile version as well, so today the company has pushed build 10166 to the slow ring of the Windows Insider program too.

Windows 10 Mobile build 10166 was released to the fast track on July 10, so after having fixed the majority of the bugs and issues found in this version, Microsoft decided to make it available for all insiders.

The update should now show up in the phone update screen for all devices enrolled in the Windows Insider program, with Microsoft saying that it should be much more stable and faster than the original release.

Windows 10 Mobile build 10166 indeed fixes many of the bugs found in the previous versions, including a patch for the lock screen issue that prevented some users from accessing the Start screen for nearly 10 minutes after the first boot.

Bigger updates starting August

Once Windows 10 for PCs gets the green light on July 29, Microsoft can finally start focusing on the mobile version a little bit more, and the company itself has confirmed that, starting next month, bigger updates for smartphones should be provided.

Some of the engineers who worked on the PC version will switch to the mobile build, so expect Windows 10 Mobile to be significantly improved in the next few months.

As far as the public debut is concerned, Microsoft is yet to reveal the launch date, but it’s believed that the company plans this to happen sometime in September or October. The launch of Windows 10 Mobile will take place in stages, so some devices might have to wait longer than others to get the new operating system, depending on how fast carriers’ testing process goes.
