Biometric authentication more accurate on Lumia 950/950 XL

Microsoft has recently rolled out Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.107 to new Lumia phones that are not part of the Windows Insider program and now everyone’s hoping that this version could also be the upgrade offered to Windows Phone devices.

But as far as the high-end Lumia phones supporting Windows Hello are concerned, Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.107 brings significant improvements, as biometric authentication seems to be working much better than before the update.

On our Lumia 950 XL, Windows Hello is a lot faster on .107 and although it still fails to authenticate at random times, especially when in motion (such as walking), the percentage of failed attempts has been reduced significantly.

A phone reset can always help when running preview builds

Posts on reddit also indicate that Windows Hello is faster and more accurate in this build, but it’s also worth noting that in some cases, a reset might be needed to use this feature at its full potential. Windows 10 Mobile builds are being shipped via Windows Update, but in many cases, resetting the phone on the latest version can make wonders.

Windows Hello is a feature that’s available exclusively on the high-end Lumia devices for the time being and allows users to get access to their phones using biometric authentication.

Scanning the iris is clearly one of the most effective security system for a phone, as it’s nearly impossible to bypass it, but on previous versions of Windows 10 Mobile, the whole process not only that was painfully slow, but it also failed to properly recognize the iris unless the phone was really close to the eye.

With this new build, however, Microsoft has spent more time on improving Windows Hello and although only a couple of features have it right now, it paves the road for more devices to get it in the coming months.
