Project NEON expected to be part of Redstone 3 update

Windows 10 Redstone 3 is expected to come with an important overhaul of the user interface, and Microsoft’s internal work in this regard is said to be codenamed Project NEON.

And while the software giant hasn’t talked at all about this visual overhaul, there still are some hints at how Windows 10 apps could look with Project NEON, and concept designers use them to create their own interpretations.

We’ve already told you about the concepts created by DeviantArt user lukeled, but now he continued this artwork with more designs that imagine the Start menu and the Task View feature with Project NEON cues.

Interactive Mail app tile

While both these concepts look doable, there’s one thing that deserves a little bit more attention: the restyled Windows 10 Start menu comes with an interactive live tile.

Interactive live tiles have long been a super-requested feature for both Windows on the desktop and Windows phones, but for some reason, Microsoft has never implemented them. Interactive tiles could allow users to perform a number of tasks using the tiles themselves, without the need for opening the apps.

In the case of the imagined interactive live tile, this comes with options to mark an email as read, delete it, or send it to the junk folder, all without actually accessing the Mail app interface.

This is a feature that would certainly come in handy and make apps like Mail more widely-adopted, so Microsoft should really have this in mind when planning future updates for Windows 10.

The next major update for Windows 10 is the Creators Update, but given the fact that the existing preview builds do not come with such a feature, there’s obviously no chance to get interactive tiles in the final build. Redstone 3, however, could bring updates to live tiles as well, along with Project NEON, and insiders should start seeing these new features shortly after the debut of the Creators Update.
