14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has recently confirmed a new issue in Windows 10 cumulative update KB4467682 for Windows 10 version 1803 (April 2018 Update).
The company says in an update posted on the official KB page that cumulative update KB4467682 could break down the Start menu on Windows 10 for a number of users, though very few specifics are provided.
“After installing this update some users with custom Start menu layouts may see them displayed incorrectly,” Microsoft says.
The software giant claims it is already working on a fix, and it expects the patch to roll out in mid-December.
Microsoft is projected to roll out new cumulative updates for Windows 10 tomorrow as part of the monthly Patch Tuesday cycle, and it’s likely that a fix for this Start menu bug could be included as well.
If no fix is included in tomorrow’s rollout, expect a fix by the end of the month, though specifics as to when it could land aren’t available right now.
Update already pulled
What’s important to know is that Microsoft has already pulled this particular cumulative update after it discovered that KB4467682 may cause fatal crashes on a number of Surface Book 2 units.
“After installing this optional update some users have reported getting a blue or black screen with error code, “System thread exception not handled.” As a precaution, we have removed this optional update from Windows Update and Microsoft Update Catalog to protect customers. Fixes and improvements will be available in the December 2018 security update release and will include a resolution for this issue,” Microsoft says.
No workaround is available at this point for the two problems, but users can simply remove the update completely if they experience any of the two issues mentioned above. Devices where the update wasn’t installed would no longer get it from Windows Update.
