The Patch Tuesday rollout begins tomorrow

Microsoft will kick off its monthly Patch Tuesday rollout tomorrow, and just as expected, new cumulative updates for all Windows 10 versions will also be included.

This new patching cycle is particularly important for Windows 10 users, as it will bring a new cumulative update for version 1809 (October 2018 Update).

The October update was originally rolled out on October 2 but was pulled only a few days later after Microsoft discovered a critical bug potentially deleting files in user libraries. The update was re-released in November, and Microsoft is now working on ironing out the remaining bugs.

This new cumulative update to be shipped tomorrow, however, will include both security and non-security fixes, and it’s critical for users to install it as soon as possible, especially given it would be resolving a series of vulnerabilities in Windows.

Further details as to what’s being fixed in this new update will be released when the rollout begins.

Updates for all Windows 10 versions

The other Windows 10 versions will also get cumulative updates, but it’s important to know that Home and Pro SKUs are only serviced on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and newer. Previous versions are only supported for Education and Enterprise users, and Microsoft is releasing cumulative updates as part of the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC).

There’s no doubt some are concerned that these cumulative updates would fail to install, as this is something that happened in the past on several occasions, but we’ll keep an eye on the main feedback channels and let you know should you delay patching.

Microsoft has already promised a series of fixes this month for Windows 10, including for a bug that caused BSODs on a number of Surface Book 2 devices. Microsoft has already pulled cumulative update KB4467682, which was found to be the culprit in this case, and a new patch with further refinements is expected tomorrow on version 1803.
